Letter to Barnet Allotment plot-holders

A letter to all Barnet allotment plot-holders regarding the setting up of a Trust to manage all allotments in the Barnet area.

People and wildlife friendly. Kitchen gardens. Leisure gardens. Stress relief!

Woodhouse Allotments is a self managed site in North Finchley, leasing approximately 8.68 acres of land from the London Borough of Barnet. Most of the 125 plots are let and are 10 poles in size (about 250 square metres). A few plots are larger and there are some 5 pole plots, ideal for beginners or those with less time to spend.

The site is in a secluded location, with a hard roadway, about 550 metres long linking the two entrances, one in Grove Road, the other in Warnham Road. Gates at both ends are kept padlocked with each plotholder having his or her own key.

To become a member and rent a 10 pole plot costs less than £50 a year. There are almost as many women working the plots as men and ages range from 16 to 90 years. Over 62 year olds get a rent reduction.

Facilities on site

• a Portaloo (summer months only).
• Trading Hut selling competitively priced seeds and other goods.
• car parking areas at both ends of the site.

Sheds and greenhouses can be erected subject to the Borough's size regulations.

Responsibility for ensuring this and that all the other rules are adhered to falls to the Committee elected annually at the AGM.

Woodhouse Allotments Ltd. is a member of the National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners and is affiliated to the Barnet Federation of Allotment and Horticultural societies which give both advice and support when needed.
