Woodhouse Allotments is a self-managed site in North Finchley, covering around 8.68 acres of land in the London Borough of Barnet. We have 133 plots, at roughly 10 poles in size each (about 250 square metres). A few plots are larger and there are also some 5-pole plots, ideal for beginners or those with less time to spend.
Our members grow a wide variety of fruit and vegetables, everything from potatoes, onions and asparagus, to apricots, quince and Szechuan peppers. We have roughly equal numbers of men and women tending plots, ranging in age from 16 to 90 years.
We run a number of community events throughout the year when members can together and share produce, including an informal produce competition and awards in September.
The site is in a secluded location, with a hard roadway about 550 metres long, linking the two entrances, one in Grove Road, the other in Warnham Road. Gates at both ends are kept padlocked with each plotholder having his or her own key.
Facilities at Woodhouse
- Standpipes – no plot is far from a tap and running water;
- Trading Hut – our Trading Hut, open at weekends, sells a diverse range of seeds, composts, and garden accessories;
- Car parking at both ends of the site;
- Composting eco-toilet for members’ use.
Although all our plots are currently let, our waiting list is small and plots can become available throughout the year.
Woodhouse Allotments is a member of the National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners and is affiliated to the Barnet Federation of Allotment and Horticultural societies which give both advice and support when needed.
