Our Summer Social this year will be on Sunday September 4th, in the afternoon, with the usual mix of good food, drinks, the opportunity to catch up with fellow members, and of course, our annual produce competition.
New members may be relieved to hear that our produce competition is very informal compared to some, and we have enough categories to enable everyone, surely, to find something growing on their plot which they can enter. You’ll be competing for vouchers to spend in the Trading Hut as well as the honour and glory of winning.
This year’s produce categories are:
- Tallest sunflower
- Heaviest tomato
- Heaviest pumpkin
- Heaviest onion
- Heaviest potato
- Longest runner bean
- Longest carrot
- Longest parsnip
- Heaviest beetroot
- Longest cucumber
- Heaviest marrow/courgette
- Most unusual fruit or vegetable
- Best arrangement of produce: at least 5 different allotment-grown fruit, vegetables or flowers, arranged in a container of your choice
- Best miniature garden (in a box or container)
As ever, all attendees are encouraged to bring along a dish to share made with allotment produce. More details on the competition and other activities on the day to follow.
